Welcome to the CE activity provided by San Francisco State University and Community Health Works, a Partnership of San Francisco State University and City College of San Francisco. Based on California Newsreel's documentary film series Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?, this activity is a tool for health professionals to learn more about the social determinants of health. Participants may view up to four hours of the series and earn from one to four CE credits, respectively (see details below).

Continuing Education credits are available for licensed health professionals, including:
- Medical Doctors
- Registered Nurses
- Certified Health Education Specialists
- any provider whose board accepts Continuing Education Medical Credits for non-physicians (most boards - check with your board if you have questions)
Requirements for successful completion of this continuing education activity are as follows:
- Participants will register through the College of Extended Learning at San Francisco State University and pay the $50 course fee.
- Participants will log on to the secure course website and review the learning objectives and disclosures for the activity.
- Participants will watch the segment/s of Unnatural Causes that correspond to the activity (film will be viewed online or participant will state how film was previously viewed).
(60 minutes of viewing time for each CE credit earned.) - Participants will successfully complete the corresponding four-question multiple-choice quiz. (Successful completion requires a 75% passing grade and quiz may be taken as many times as needed.)
- Approximately four weeks after successful completion of the quiz, participants will receive an automated email with a link to the website where they will log in, complete a short course evaluation and retrieve their certificate of completion.
Timelines for CE activity:
This CE activity will be available throughout the each semester. You may enroll at any time during the semester. To enroll, visit our registration page or call (415) 405-7700 for staff assisted registration. As part of the enrollment process, participants will be provided with instructions for accessing the online video, and completing the course quiz. Participants must complete the CE activity by the end date of the class, and can receive between one and four CE credits. The cost is $50 regardless of how many CE credits are earned. Once the class is completed, no additional CE credits may be earned. If you cannot complete the activity within the class timelines, you may enroll in a new class in another semester.
Participants should allow a minimum of two weeks to complete the activity. This course fee is non-refundable.
After you have completed the activity and passed the quiz, please allow 4 weeks to process your information before you will be authorized to go onto the CE Evaluation System to obtain your certificate.
