Earn Transferable University and College Credit (3 units) Online
These courses will allow learners to view the documentary series and related video of some of the nation’s foremost leaders on the social determinants of health, such as Nancy Kreiger, David Williams, Richard Hofrichter, and Anthony Iton. You will be guided through important readings, and the instructors will support you in learning about community campaigns and organizations that are successfully working to improve social determinants of health. Students will dialog with others from around the nation in an online community.
HED 221 is a lower division course (first and second year). At the statewide level, this course satisfies Segment II graduation requirements in the Cal State University system. Locally, the course is fully articulated with Hlth 221 at City College of San Francisco. HED 221 also satisfies electives for the BS in the Department of Health Education at SF State.
HED 640 is an upper division course (third and fourth year). Many graduate programs may also accept these credits—rules vary, check with your graduate program in advance.

- Satisfies general education requirements to transfer to CSU in Area D7, Social and Behavioral Sciences.
- Satisfies graduation requirement for Associate's Degree in Area G1.
- Counts toward the major in Health Education and Community Health Studies.
- Satisfies electives for CHW Certificate.
- Hlth 221 is articulated with HED 221 at SF State, so it satisfies Segment II CSU graduation requirement and electives for the BS in Health Education at SF State.
