St. Petersburg, Russia, June 11-July 10, 2008
Summer in Russia (1 unit)

Study in St. Petersburg–a vibrant and beautiful city that was the Russian capital until the Revolution.

We will be there during the White Nights, the most magical time of the year, when the sun merely dips below the horizon for an hour or so before the new day dawns. In addition to morning classes, students have the opportunity to use their Russian at home, since they live in apartments with Russian families. There is a great deal to see and do in the city-visiting the Hermitage or the Freud Dream Museum, attending operas and ballets in elegant theaters built by the tsars, or just walking in the midnight twilight along the romantic canals. St. Petersburg is a major destination for international performers as well. This year we plan to take an overnight trip to the island of Kizhi in Lake Onega, a UNESCO World Heritage site where beautifully preserved examples of Russian wooden architecture have been gathered. Classes will be at the Rossika Educational Methodology Center in St. Petersburg (www.rshu.ru/rossika). Each group usually has 6-8 students.
