SF State Extended Learning Launches Social Media Marketing Certificate Program
Beginning in the spring 2011 Semester, SF State Extended Learning will offer a new Social Media Marketing Certificate program in response to the growing industry demand for marketing professionals with expertise in the social media arena. Social media is no longer a fad, but rather a bona fide communication tool. It doesn't matter if you like social media or not; if your audience does, you need to consider it-seriously. This course gives marketers the information and tools necessary to manage this communication channel effectively and integrate it with their overall marketing strategy, says Avery Horzewski, president of Women in Consulting, social media expert, and instructor in the program.
This program is one of only a few college level certificates in the Bay Area and consists of six required courses that can be completed within two semesters at a total cost of $2,190, or courses can be taken individually. This program allows students to interact with professionals who've integrated or made social media the cornerstone of their careers. Social media is a living, breathing and ever-changing field that impacts companies cross-functionally, adds Jennifer Lindsay, a leading Web Strategist, speaker and program instructor. Courses include:
- The Power of Community: An Introduction to Social Media
- Mastering Social Media Tools
- Engaging Your Community: Creating Effective Social Media Campaigns
- Social Media in the Real World: Successful Applications of Social Media Strategies
- Social On the Go: Trends in Mobile Technology
- Integrating Social Media into the Overall Marketing Strategy
Lindsay explains: The courses in this program complement one another in a way that will equip students with the skills to know how and what to emphasize, when and what is cost-effective -- and what is not.
For more information about the Social Media Marketing program, visit www.cel.sfsu.edu/socialmedia/. Registration begins January 6th, 2011; the first course begins on January 31st, 2011. Classes are scheduled on evenings and Saturdays to accommodate the professional audience.
