Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies (RTC)
Advancing the understanding of the worlds complex marine and estuarine environments through research, education, and outreach, with a focus on San Francisco Bay
The program at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies (RTC) focuses on estuaries and the marine environment. Research of San Francisco Bay, its natural environment and the impacts of human development surrounding the Bay is emphasized. The Romberg Tiburon Center is located on San Francisco Bay, 20 miles north of the San Francisco State University main campus. It is located on 34 acres near the community of Tiburon. RTC facilities include a large research laboratory, an office and classroom complex, and a conference center all surrounded by native oak woodlands.
The Romberg Tiburon Center
The Romberg Tiburon Center offers special opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to gain field experience, laboratory training, and practice skills in a variety of biological and environmental areas. Courses are offered at the center through the departments of biology, geography and geology. Both general education and elective courses are given. Special short courses are sometimes offered at RTC in the spring and summer.
Weekly seminars are offered on specific research topics in fall and spring, and are open to the public. An annual open house is held in October.
