Financial Aid Information
The College of Extended Learning receives no state money to support its programs; therefore, financial aid is extremely limited. Financial aid, if granted, is only available to students who are admitted to academic certificate or degree programs, and are enrolled in at least six units per semester.
Understanding Financial Aid Information on MySFSU
When a student logs in to 'CEL Reg' on MySFSU for a specific term, there will be a field in the upper right hand corner of the screen stating either “Financial Aid: Yes” or “Financial Aid: No”. The 'Yes' or 'No' indicates whether or not a student is currently set up in the CEL system to receive a Financial Aid disbursement for a particular semester.
Students Approved for Financial Aid
Students who have a financial aid approval in the CEL system will have their payments deferred, and course fees will be automatically deducted from their financial aid disbursement. Please be advised that having a financial aid approval does not guarantee that a student's disbursement will cover the full cost of course fees. If a student's disbursement is less than the full amount owed, the remaining balance is due to CEL immediately upon disbursement.
Please note that students who are approved for financial aid in the CEL system may still have some Financial Aid holds on their record that may hold up their disbursement. To confirm that no holds exist and that a disbursement will occur, students should contact the Financial Aid Voice Response System (FAVoRS) at 415.338.7000.
Not Approved for Financial Aid?
Students who do not have a financial aid approval in the CEL system need to pay their fees (or get their financial aid approval in place) by their payment due date to avoid being dropped from classes for non-payment.
Disbursement Amount
Students that do not know their disbursement amounts should contact their Financial Aid Advisor for information. (See Financial Aid Advisors.)
Incorrect financial aid status?
If you believe that you are receiving financial aid and the system indicate otherwise, please be sure that you contact your financial aid advisor to verify that you have completed all necessary steps for the financial aid process. (See Financial Aid Advisors.)
