Personal Access Codes
Personal access codes (PACs) are needed by students to access information via TouchTone and the Web. PAC codes are set up in the following ways:
CEL-Only Students
CEL students who do not know their PAC should try using a PAC based on the last four digits of their birthdate. (October 4, 1964 generates PAC number 0464.) If this birthdate combination does not work, students should reset their PAC online at https://www.sfsu.edu/online/pacreset.htm. On the PAC change form, students will enter their SFSU ID number and birthdate. Within 24 hours, a new PAC will be sent to the e-mail address the student has on file with the University.
Once the new PAC is received, students should go to mySFSU and change their PAC to a number that they can remember.
CEL & SF State Degree-Seeking Students/Applicants
Students in a degree-seeking program, either through the College of Extended Learning or SF State, will not have a PAC automatically generated for them. This is also true for current and previously matriculated SF State students and students who are newly admitted to SF State or who have applied for admission in the past. These students will need to initialize their PAC online at https://www.sfsu.edu/online/pacinit.htm, or by calling 415.338.7000.
Students who have forgotten their PAC should reset their PAC online at https://www.sfsu.edu/online/pacreset.htm. On the PAC change form, students will enter their SFSU ID number and birthdate. Within 24 hours, a new PAC will be sent to the e-mail address the student has on file with the University.
SF State Staff, Faculty, & Administrators
Faculty, Staff, and Administrators who do not know their PAC should reset their PAC online at https://www.sfsu.edu/online/pacreset.htm. On the PAC change form, they will enter their SFSU ID number and birthdate. Within twenty-four hours, a new PAC will be sent to the e-mail address the faculty/staff member has on file with the University. If this does not work, please call the faculty & staff PAC assistance line at 415.405.3993.
SFSU ID
As of October 1, 2005 students register using a nine-digit SFSU Identification Number (SFSU ID) instead of their SSN. This change was implemented for confidentiality and security purposes.
State regulations require that students submit their SSN to the College of Extended Learning when creating their student record. But after a record is set up, students will use their SFSU ID for every transaction at the University.
Students can look up their SFSU Identification Number via the Web at https://www.sfsu.edu/online/lookupsfsuid.html.
