Pro Tools Certified Training: Related Programs
At the Foo Fighters' state-of-the-art Studio 606 complex just outside Hollywood, frontman Dave Grohl is gearing up for one last vocal take before calling it a day.
"I remember the day I first saw Pro Tools in the studio," says Dave Grohl. "Someone came by to give a demolike, 'Here's what it can docheck this out.' This was in '91, and I remember thinking, 'Whoa, you can do music on a computer?' That was what, 16 years ago? Since then, I've seen Pro Tools used in sessions where I was completely blown away with what it does."
"At first, the Foos thought of Pro Tools as a talent compensator, so we didn't use it muchas compared to now, where Pro Tools is all we use." Since the sampling rates have gone up to 96 kHz with 24-bit resolution, it's perfect. You get all the top end of the cymbals, and with the room mics, there's a really nice air around the sound, which you weren't really getting before."
Of course, Dave Grohl is no stranger to top-flight, tape-based recording studios, having logged many late nights during the turbulent and intensely creative heyday of Nirvana.
