Note: It is strongly recommended that students bring a flash drive to all classes including the first class meeting.

About the Classes

Project Planning & Management Overview and Scheduling Fundamentals are the two prerequisites for all other classes. Please be sure to bring a flash drive to the Scheduling Fundamentals classes if you want to save your work.

Note: Some classes leading to completion of the Project Management certificate are offered evenings, others on weekends, depending on subject matter and availability of faculty. Students enrolling in the program should ensure they have the scheduling flexibility to attend either nights or weekends depending on courses offered each semester.

Required Texts

Course materials are generally provided in each class along with the syllabus. There are, however some additional required texts.

Project Planning & Management Overview requires A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide), Fourth Edition. It is recommended students read the first five chapters before the first class meeting.

The PMP® Exam Prep class requires PMP® Exam Prep by Rita Mulcahy, Sixth Edition.

The Project Risk Management class requires Identifying and Managing Project Risk: Essential Tools for Failure-Proofing Your Project, AMACOM 2003, by Tom Kendrick.

The Procurement class requires Project Management: Case Studies, Second Edition, Harold Kerzner.

The Quality Management class requires Managing Project Quality by Kloppenborg & Petrick, ©2002.

Presentation Skills requires The Project Meeting Facilitator, by Tammy Adams, Janet Means and Michael Spivey; and Successful Presentation Skills (3rd Edition) by Andrew Bradbury.

The Project Communications Management class requires Effective Communication for Project Managers, by Ralph Kliem; and Project Communications Management Study Guide, by Frank Payne.

The Project Human Resource Management class requires Human Resource Skills for Project Manager: The Human Aspect of Project Management, Volume 2 by Vijay K. Verma; and Project Human Resource Management Study Guide by Frank Payne.

Certificate of Completion

A certificate of completion will be awarded upon successful completion of a minimum of 180 hours of instruction (18 CEU). Applications for certificates are due, along with a $50 non-refundable fee and your unofficial SF State transcripts after all of your course grades have been submitted. Please do not apply until you have received credit for all Project Management courses completed.
