OLLI & The Transition Network Present
Digital Photography:
How to Organize, Edit, & Share Your Photos
with David Casuto
Do your eyes glaze over at what to do with all your digital photos, once you have them? Learn how Picasa, a free, easy-to use software program, can be used to organize, edit, enhance and share your photos. ("Picasa" is a blend of the name of Pablo Picasso, the phrase mi casa for "my house" and pic for pictures.) David Casuto, who guided us through social networking last Spring, will demonstrate how to get Picasa, what it can do, and why it is a good choice. He will also discuss digital photo theory and highlight videos he created that you can use later to learn more.
David Casuto is the founder of Senior Surf, a non-profit that teaches the Bay Area's older adults all things technological.
David is also an instructor for UC Berkeley and San Francisco State University's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and a freelance trainer. Additionally, he is the co-founder, along with Arlene Reiff, of Story Street, a photomontage slide show multimedia service. Check out his personal website, Senior Surf, and Story Street.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Receives $25,000 Gift
October 12, 2009, at the opening of the national conference of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, Mary Bitterman, President of The Bernard Osher Foundation, announced a special gift from Bernard and Barbro Osher to the members of the OLLI network. The aim of the gift is to recognize the exceptional contributions of each Institute to the community it serves as well as the many challenges that Institutes are facing in the wake of the nations economic downturn. Accordingly, every Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will receive a lagniappe* of $25,000. There are currently 120 OLLIs nationwide.
These funds are to be used in a constructive manner to strengthen programs during these difficult times. Mr. and Mrs. Osher and the Foundation Board of Trustees wish everyone involved in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute network continued success with this valuable work on behalf of our nations seasoned adults.
* Lagniappe combines the sense of an unexpected gift with that of a little something extra.

Staff Furloughs at OLLI, 2009-10
Due to the California State budget crisis, it has been decided to initiate a furlough program throughout the system during the next year to offset costs.
This means that all SF State Extended Learning staff members will be off two days per month without pay. These furloughs will not be a detriment to our program, as we have scheduled Fall classes Monday - Thursday anticipating the proposed furloughs. The Downtown Campus will be open, but there will only be a skeleton crew for technical and facilities support on scheduled furlough days. We will keep you updated in the Gazette which days each month staff is on furlough and not available. Furloughs went into effect August 1.
If you have any questions, please contact Debra Varner at dvarner@sfsu.edu or 415.817.4243.
