About the Program:
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
San Francisco State University is going gray with a new program aimed at aging baby boomers and envisioned as a new brain trusttapping into the knowledge and experience of the Bay Area's older residents.

Curriculum
OLLI-SF State strives to have a curriculum that re-inspires our membership to take a fresh look at themselves, the future, their generation, and the world of possibilities. Below, please find the curriculum's subject areas and the courses that are being offered this session.
Summer 2008 Courses
- The Arts & Creative Expression explores and experiments with the imagination, photography, creative writing, all forms of storytelling, and particularly memoir writing.
- The Writers Circle with Laurence Howard/Susan Hoffman
- How to Make a Poem Fly!: A Life-Affirming Poetry Workshop with Diane Frank (new)
- Memoir Writing: Autobiography of the Soul with Sharon Doubiago (new)
- Asian Brush Techniques for New & Experienced Artists with Fran Thompson (new)
- International Affairs & Current Events analyzes how global events have a local impact; what issues demand our attention, and how we can have an impact on them.
- Religion, Symbols, & Myth: Buddhism & Hinduism with Isabella Price Islamic Art & Spirituality with Ismail Agayev (new)
- The City & California examines new economic, social, cultural and political forces shaping the region.
- Colorful Historical Characters: Good and Evil with Marymelissa Grafflin (new)
- Walking the Neighborhoods with Max Kirkeberg
- Science & Technology introduces new software and other technologies, usually in the context of a project-based course.
- Digital Photography for All with David Casuto (new)
- Wellness delves into how we can keep ourselves healthy and invigorated while also delving into the tougher issues of aging.
- Imagery, Transformation and the Creative Process with Susanne West (new)
- Life Review: Exploring Your Future Self with Hope Levy (new)
- The Science & Practice of Brain Fitness with Alvaro Fernandez (new)

OLLI Volunteers Needed
Attending classes at OLLI is merely the opening move into a society of active, informed adults.

Volunteer to support the community of Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's member-learners.
Volunteering for various governance committees in OLLI gives you the opportunity to determine policies and the future of the organization.
Other areas of volunteering are: in-class support (teaching assistants), community event planning, membership outreach, fundraising, and administrative support.

OLLI-SF State Benefactors
Support for SF State's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute comes from the Bernard Osher Foundation, the SF State College of Extended Learning, and the members of OLLI-SF State. The Bernard Osher Foundation has seeded numerous lifelong learning institutes in colleges and universities throughout the country. The Bay Area is home to several Osher supported programs at Sonoma State University, UCSF, UCSC, CSU-East Bay, Dominican University, Santa Clara University, San Jose State University, and UC Berkeley.

Classes are taught by senior and emeritus
faculty
from San Francisco State University and other universities, as well as expert professionals, artists, and writers from the Bay Area.

Homework, Grades, & Credit
OLLI-SF State is designed to be invigorating but not pressuring. Some instructors will give reasonable (and often fun) homework assignments. There are no grades or credits given.
Class Meetings & Class Size
Courses are held weekdays, lunchtimes, evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of participants who work or are retired. Class size varies from 11-30 people. Classes without a minimum enrollment of 11 may not be offered. Some courses will have limited enrollment. Register early.
