The MSP Celebrates 20 Years: 1992-2012
We are proud to celebrate the Multimedia Studies Programs 20th anniversary this year. The Multimedia Studies Program, commonly referred to as MSP, was founded by Robert Bell in the summer of 1992 and has grown at an astonishing pace to become one of the most comprehensive digital media training centers in the country.
Since 1992, the program has been committed to providing state-of-the-art production facilities for students to meet the demands of new applications and delivery platforms. The MSP has been actively developing partnerships with leading developers of new media technologies to assure that the program remains a vital force in professional education and technology training in the SF Bay Area. Currently, the MSP offers two prominent certificate programs: The Digital Video Intensive and the Multimedia Studies Program, along with shorter intensive certificates, to meet SF Bay Area professionals needs.
Collaborating with leading industry partners, the MSP proudly continues to bring advanced digital media training to the community and gratefully acknowledges the 20 years of support and partnership of Adobe, Inc. and Apple, Inc.
Multimedia Studies Program: The First to Offer Final Cut Pro X
SF State Extended Learning's Multimedia Studies and Digital Video Intensive programs will be amongst the first in the nation to offer courses in Apple's Final Cut Pro X. In special arrangement with publishers Peachpit Press and Pearson Education and author Diana Weynand, MSP and DVI students will receive advance chapters and media files from Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X, before the official ship date of September 30. Once they arrive, students will be given the official books and media files. Meanwhile, the programs' Apple Certified Trainers are gearing up for the courses to begin shortly.
Says MSP/DVI director and filmmaker, Craig Abaya, "Whenever the software companies launch a major upgrade, it's always a challenge. This time was more challenging than ever. We held off from offering FCPX courses until we had time to evaluate both the tool and the industry climate. I do feel that Apple has taken a great risk with such a dramatic re-write of their industry-standard software, especially in their dropping support of older technologies. But I think it's important to move our students toward the future. I'm sure not all users of the previous version will upgrade immediately, but eventually they will be forced to, whether it's to Final Cut Pro X or something else. We continue to consult our industry colleagues including our faculty of media professionals and staffing professionals.
The MSP offers courses in all aspects of multimedia including up-to-date certified software training from Apple, Adobe and Avid. The Digital Video Intensive is an integrated digital filmmaking program that also includes software training in Final Cut Pro X and After Effects CS5.5.
