INGI has been a driving force with the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC). CENIC serves as the network provider for the entire California education community, including K-12; Community Colleges, as well as the CSU and UC systems. CENIC is a leader in the development of Next Generation Internet infrastructure.

INGI is active as a a leading center for digital media applications through its partnership with the CineGrid initiative. CineGrid is the leading Grid Computing media initiative founded by CALIT2 at UC San Diego with major participation from companies such as NTT, Skywalker Sound, Sony, SGI, and Olympus driving the hardware. It is the only initiative implementing the 4k Digital Cinema Standards of SMPTE. INGI helped lead the first ever demonstration of CineGrid and also partnered to produce a second event at the First Mile Conference in April.
