Gail Whitaker, Ed.D.
Associate Vice President for Academic Program Development
Dean, College of Extended Learning
Dr. Whitaker is a leading innovator in creating new academic programs through sustainable program design and partnership development. Dr. Whitaker received her B.S. degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, her M.S. from Smith College, and her Ed.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She joined the San Francisco State University Faculty in 1980. Joaquin Alvarado, Director
Mr. Alvarado has served as Director of the SF State, Institute for Next Generation Internet since its founding in 2005. Under his diverse direction, INGI expanded its leadership in the equitable development of infrastructure, programming, and collaborative activities for communities in the United States and global partners. In the Institute’s first year, INGI formed the Digital Media Advisory Council (DMAC) for the city of San Francisco to enable city to develop the digital economy in the areas of education, workforce, business development, policy, and new technology. His diverse roles include development of sophisticated communication technologies to built collaboratively amongst educational institutions, government agencies, major corporations, small businesses, and community-based organizations to insure the capacity for successful integration of next generation technologies for all communities in today’s knowledge economy. He also continues a life-long commitment to independent media production through his role as President of the Board for the Bay Area Video Coalition. Mr. Alvarado holds a B.A. in Chicano Studies from UC Berkeley and an MFA from the UCLA School of Theatre, Film, and Television. He is the co-author of Contemporary Chicana and Chicano Art, Vol. I & II., Bilingual Review Press-2002. Afitap Boz, Ph.D. Senior Researcher
Afitap Boz is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Next Generation Internet. Her research interest is primarily concerned with mobile and wireless technologies in the converging landscape of networking, applications, education, health and community development. She received a Ph.D. in communications from the Ankara University, Turkey. She has researched and published articles on topics in the communications and visual culture fields. Dr. Boz also holds a certificate in Multimedia Studies from SFSU and her experience also includes user interface, interaction and visual design for Web and multimedia applications. * INGI is located in the SFSU Office of Academic Affairs.Its Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Program Development |
