Admission & Registration Process
Because of prerequisite requirements for this program, the following is required to apply:
- a completed Curriculum Development Worksheet
- a completed Certificate Application
- copies of transcripts (official or unofficial)
- No application fee is required.
Send all of these required documents to:

Dr. John O'Shaughnessy, Program Advisor, will review all applications and transcripts. You will be notified if you are accepted into the program. For more information, please contact Richard Kay at rkay@sfsu.edu. Courses are offered in fall and spring semesters. Some core classes are only offered in spring.
Students in this program enroll through Open University.

Internal Auditing Certificate
An academic certificate of study is available after completion of 15 units. The certificate in the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing includes 15 units of undergraduate, upper division coursework.
The following is a list of the required courses for the certificate:
- ACCT 303 Accounting for Financial Analysis (3 units)
- ACCT 507 EDP Auditing (3 units)
- ACCT 551 Principles of Internal Auditing (3 units)
- FIN 350 Business Finance (3 units)
- MGMT 405 Introduction to Management & Organizational Behavior (3 units)
Students must maintain at 3.0 grade point average in the certificate course work to earn the certificate.
Prerequisites
The following represent additional courses that are required as prerequisites to the above curriculum.
(Some or all of these prerequisites may be waived depending on the candidate's formal education and business experience.)
- DS 110 Mathematical Analysis for Business (3 units)
- DS 212 Business Statistics (3 units)
- ACCT 100 Principles of Financial Accounting (3 units)
- ACCT 101 Principles of Managerial Accounting (3 units)
- ACCT 307 Accounting Information Systems (3 units)
- ISYS 263 Introduction to Computer Information Systems (3 units)
- ECON 305 Economic Analysis for Non-Majors (3 units)
Certificate Completion
- Download, and complete all steps detailed for, the Certificate Approved Program form (PDF).
- Remit a $50 fee, payable to SFSU-CEL, to:

Award of the Internal Auditing Certificate
The certificate will be awarded by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and will also be signed by the Program Advisor of the certificate program. Notice of issuance of the certificate will be entered on the student's official academic record.
