San Francisco State Instructor Sets the Beat for Grammy Awards and for His Students
Music Director for Grammy's Pre-Telecast Inspires New Generation of Music/Recording Industry Professionals
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - As Music Director for the Grammy Awards pre-telecast, Larry Batiste is working to create something special for the best and brightest in the music and recording industry. But it's not for the show; it's for his students in the Music/Recording Industry program of study at San Francisco State University's College of Extended Learning.
Founded over twenty years ago, the Music/Recording Industry (MRI) program is one of the many unique Extended Learning courses of study that provides high quality programs for adults, enabling them to reach their personal and professional goals through continuing education.
The MRI program gives students a solid foundation in not only music education, but also the new media skills necessary to prepare for successful careers in the music industry, said Batiste. MRI offers a unique, one-of-a-kind environment that brings students and leaders of the music and entertainment industry together to learn, share new information and create networking opportunities.
With the increasing consolidation of major record labels and the flourishing opportunities of digital media, the MRI program offers courses which are designed for the student to get a practical real world experience of how to navigate their future careers in the world of independent music.
Through the courses I teach in the MRI program, I can share my professional experience as it relates to the preparation and collaboration process on my job as musical director of the Grammy Awards Pre-Telecast, added Batiste. It's all about talent, skills, creativity, and collaboration, and that's what makes the MRI program unique; each class is an event.
Batiste added that if the music/recording industry is where a student wants to go, the MRI program can be the bridge to get there.
Whether your goal is to work as a musician, producer, engineer, manager, agent, songwriter, or publisher, upon completion of the Music/Recording Industry program, you will have a foundation in the language and practice of the music business that will allow you to function intelligently within the music industry, added Batiste.
The Music/Recording Industry program offers two concentrations; the music business and the recording arts. Students are able to focus on one area or combine classes from both, to uniquely target their program around personal interests while gaining the necessary skills to succeed in the music industry.
Students will leave the Music/Recording Industry program with the knowledge that they can confidently enter the competitive field of music with a clear understanding of all aspects of the music industry, said Batiste.
